To foster a culture of equal opportunity, businesses must embrace the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion, placing them at the heart of their policies and procedures. As individuals, we have the responsibility to treat others fairly, just as we’d expect to be treated fairly ourselves. Only then can we reap the benefits of a truly diverse and inclusive workplace, not to mention society as a whole.

Certain characteristics are protected by UK equality law and it is necessary for every employee to know what these are, so they can abide by the equality legislation. If a person feels your organisation (or someone in your organisation) has treated them unfairly, they can start a grievance procedure or take their case to the employment tribunal. It is important to make sure everyone in your organisation complies with equality law.

We’ve updated our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Essentials course for 2025 with fresh, relatable examples and a more interactive learning experience. It now includes stronger focus on unconscious bias, inclusive communication, and the everyday situations that shape fairness at work — helping learners recognise issues and take confident, practical action.

When you finish the course, you will be asked to demonstrate your understanding of some of the key points by completing a short assessment.

Courses developed by Nimble Elearning have been certified by the CPD Certification Service and count towards your annual CPD requirement.

Objectives

After completing the course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain key principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), including the Equality Act 2010 and protected characteristics
  • Recognise how barriers, biases, and discrimination affect how people interact at work
  • Identify how reasonable adjustments and inclusive communication help create a fairer workplace
  • Recognise and challenge everyday assumptions to build stronger connections and more inclusive workplace relationships

Topics

The key messages are delivered through three main topics:

  • The introduction topic sets out the protected characteristics listed in the Equality Act 2010 and defines discrimination, equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Bias, harassment and victimisation is all about the factors that can lead to bias, exclusion and harm – and the impact this can have on individuals and teams
  • The final topic, taking action, gives practical advice for promoting fairness and challenging bias in the workplace
