Mental Health First Aid (MHFA): Nimble Elearning Partners With Espirita Workforce Solutions

Business is waking up to the scale of poor mental health in the workplace, but there is still a long way to go…

It’s part of Nimble Elearning’s culture that all their employees are aware of mental health in the workplace. To help achieve this, Dan Lane, Accredited Instructor and Training Manager at Espirita Workforce Solutions recently ran a half-day Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace training session for Nimble Elearning staff.

3 out of 5 employees have experienced mental health issues in the past year because of work, according to the Business in the Community (BITC) The Prince’s Responsible Business Network in their Mental Health at Work Report 2017.

This second National Employee Mental Wellbeing Survey, in partnership with YouGov is part of a three-year collaborative project with business and five national partners. It reveals that although there has been progress against their three calls to action and recommendations in the 2016 report, too many men and women with mental health issues are suffering in silence at work, unable to seek help from colleagues or managers.

The charity BITC is a business-led membership organisation made up of progressive businesses of all sizes who understand that the prosperity of business and society are mutually dependent. They exist to build healthy communities with successful businesses at their heart.

One of their calls to action for employers, senior practitioners, business leaders and line managers, is to ensure there is a first aid trainer for mental health within an organisation, who is equipped to know what to do if someone needs help in a crisis.

Mental health first aid is just as important as physical first aid, and Nimble Elearning consider this topic to be so significant, that they are working alongside their partners, leading healthcare staffing providers Espirita Workforce Solutions, to host a 2-day accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training course at Nimble headquarters in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.

Attendees of the MHFA course will become accredited Mental Health First Aiders and will receive a certificate and an MHFA England Manual upon completion of the course.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis. In the same way as learning physical first aid, MHFA teaches people how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health and feel confident to guide someone to appropriate support. Embedding MHFA training within any organisation or community also encourages people to talk more freely about mental health, reducing stigma and creating a more positive culture.

The 2-day MHFA course will be conducted by Dan Lane, Accredited Instructor and Training Manager from Espirita Workforce Solutions. Dan has trained thousands of people in healthcare and his mental health awareness courses have been successfully run for managers and staff at Macmillan NursesBorder ForceSouthend CouncilC2C and various academy schools.

Registration to the 2-day MHFA course hosted at Nimble House, Stonehouse Gloucestershire, is available via Nimble’s events page.
