The Seventh Annual 2024 Nimble Awards, which celebrate the delivery of outstanding training, learning and development through the use of Nimble, have kicked off with this year’s finalists being unveiled.
Nimble received numerous outstanding entries from a cross section of sectors and organisations of all sizes again this year. The judging panel consisted of elearning, learning design and business experts, and it was tough to choose the finalists from so many worthy submissions. The quantity and calibre of the entries was outstanding!
The judges took a deep dive into each entry, uncovering the finer details about the entrant’s training programmes, the learning they provide, the quality of their elearning, the support they give their learners and the impact it’s had on their organisation and communities.
With judging now complete for the three categories; Positive Business Impact, Course of the Year and Positive Community Impact, it’s now an anxious wait for the winners to be announced at a special awards ceremony which will take place during Nimble Community Day, on Wednesday 18 September at Stonehouse Court Hotel in Gloucestershire.
Nimble Community Day is an extremely popular special event where Nimble customers have the opportunity to explore and discuss a wide range of learning-based topics.
The 2024 Nimble Awards finalists and their categories are:
Course of the Year
This award will be presented to an organisation or individual who displays excellence in the design and delivery of an elearning course through Nimble.
Judges looked for a course that demonstrates sound instructional design principles, delivered in a creative or engaging way. They looked for evidence of working towards a project brief with key stakeholder engagement throughout, and a clear focus on learner experience. Evidence against success criteria was also considered by the judges.
PAM Group: Cultural Competence in Occupational Health
PAM Group provides occupational health services to employees, and their PAM Academy trains clinicians to ensure the best possible outcomes for both employees and their employers. The course submitted aims to raise awareness of cultural competence among clinicians, enabling them to consider the cultural context of each client within the biopsychosocial model of health with the aim of getting people back to work with confidence.
Judges comments: “An important course aiming to break new ground to improve patient experience and assist effective service provision of Occupational Health practitioners. Strong and engaging content with references to some useful tools and tips for practitioners. An excellent video summary was included which helped direct learners as to how to transition their academic learning into practical application in the workplace.”
Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL): Introduction to Neurodiversity in the Workplace
As the trading arm of the Salvation Army, SATCoL supports the charity’s efforts via its clothing collection, retail and music divisions. This course is available for staff across all divisions and was created to help employees understand the challenges and benefits of having a neurodiverse workforce. It has been particularly helpful for colleagues in the retail division, who work alongside teams of volunteers.
Judges comments: “A strong course covering an important topic. Neurodiversity was brought to life in this course through the inclusion of relevant videos and real-life case studies. The learner was encouraged to think about the challenges and benefits of several neurodivergent conditions and the objectives were clear. The content was engaging and benefitted from the authors having conducted first-hand interviews.”
Woodland Trust: UK GDPR Refresher
The Woodland Trust is one of the UK’s leading conservation charities, focused on protecting woodlands, maintaining ancient forests and preventing habitat loss for native species. This course was created to bring the often dry subject of GDPR to life for employees requiring a short refresher; the aim was to ensure that the whole team understood how to fulfil their obligations under the law, but to present the information in an engaging and easily understood way.
Judges comments: “A high quality, well tailored and focused refresher course. Professionally presented with excellent video content and a considered approach towards accessibility. Good relevance for Woodland Trust employees and the purpose and importance of the training was made clear from the start. Effort was clearly made to make the subject matter more engaging through the use of examples and interactions. Branding and graphics were consistent, crisp and represented the organisation well.”
Positive Business Impact
This award will be presented to the organisation or individual demonstrating significant business impact through the use of elearning.
This could have been an internal project, a commercial venture, reseller initiative or professional course build. Entrants may also wished to highlight how elearning has had an impact on their response to ongoing economic challenges, and the rise of remote and hybrid working. Judges looked for clear objectives for the use of elearning, a well-considered project plan, defined success criteria, marketing campaign (if applicable), and an indication of the performance improvement or revenue generation achieved.
Marsh Finance
As a FCA-regulated provider of car finance, training is absolutely critical for Marsh to ensure they provide the best possible service while considering the needs of vulnerable customers and keeping on top of the latest regulations. They use Nimble to create, deliver and track online training, keeping detailed records over multiple years.
Judges comments: “This course has benefitted significantly from being meticulously pre-planned, implemented and then further refined with feedback loops at the end. The result has been for the company to exceed their objectives and deliver substantial business impact aligned to the business strategy.”
Noetica Ltd
Noetica provides software solutions specifically designed for outbound call centres, enabling businesses to craft campaigns that are aligned to key objectives and to deliver smooth calling processes, data insights and productivity improvements. In this entry, they outlined how they’ve created Nimble courses to be used directly by their customers, from call agents to administrators – enabling clients to use the Noetica software more effectively, while reducing the load on Noetica’s own support staff.
Judges comments: “This is the first course we’ve seen that benefits both company staff and customers alike! As such, it’s an excellent example of having a successful dual benefit to the company. With customers happy to engage with the training courses, they have learned more about Noetica’s products and found functionality they were not using before.”
Robertsons
A family business specialising in investigation solutions for a range of organisations including insurance companies, Robertsons have a clear need for training and have used Nimble for a number of years. Their entry focused on a specific training need that arose after multiple phishing attacks on the business, with a light-hearted but impactful piece of microlearning that made a big difference to their cybersecurity.
Judges comments: “What a wonderful project! A clear business benefit, conveyed with enthusiasm and courage to try something creatively different. The combination has delivered a strong positive impact for the business where there have been no phishing breaches since the rollout of the course.”
Positive Community Impact
This award will be presented to the organisation or individual demonstrating significant community impact through the use of elearning; this could be within the local community, or as part of a wider positive societal force for change.
All types of organisations were invited to apply, but this category is particularly suited to charities and non-profit organisations, or to businesses that have completed a community or sustainability project.
Neuro Therapy Network
In their 41 volunteer-staffed centres across the UK, charity Neuro Therapy Network provides high-dose oxygen therapy (HDOT) in pressurised chambers to treat a variety of conditions, from sports injuries to neurological issues. The therapy can promote faster healing and provide relief from symptoms such as brain fog. The charity transformed their paper manual for operating the HDOT chambers into an interactive online course using Nimble, and it’s revolutionised their training approach.
Judges comments: “NTN’s innovative use of limited resources to create a user-friendly training course demonstrates a strong commitment to quality and effectiveness. By transforming a 60-page manual into an interactive online module, NTN ensured consistent and accessible training for 389 learners nationwide, achieving an impressive average test score of 88%. This shift not only improved the quality and uniformity of training but also facilitated easy updates to keep the content current. The successful implementation highlights NTN’s dedication to improving HDOT delivery and supporting its member centres in securing funding through demonstrable training excellence.”
Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL)
In this entry, the trading arm of the Salvation Army highlighted the impact of the Environmental Awareness courses they provide for colleagues across the business. Their approach to training largely involves providing staff with access to a large and ever-growing catalogue of high-quality courses, allowing them to self-enrol on those modules that interest them or are relevant to their role. Tying into SATCoL’s annual Management Conference theme, Dare to CARE for the Environment, signups for the course skyrocketed.
Judges comments: “To make their educational programme more effective, SATCoL have divided their Environmental Awareness course into two modules. This simplified and relatable structure allows learners to first understand information around the environment, raise awareness of the issues, highlight the importance of what SATCoL is achieving, and then explore practical ways for their colleagues to become more sustainable both at work and at home. The project’s alignment with SATCoL’s triple bottom line targets and its contribution to winning the Charity Retail Association’s Environmental and Sustainability Award in 2024 are notable achievements.”
